TikTok Ad Awards Winner 2025: Greatest Branding
Leveraging popular culture, native storytelling, and creator collaboration, KFC unlocked TikTok's community to connect with anime fans and drive engagement for its spicy Zinger product range.

KFC used anime-inspired creative, creator collaboration, and paid formats including TikTok Pulse, In-Feed Ads, and Spark Ads to spotlight its spicy Zinger range, generating 65 million impressions, 14,000 new followers, and strong community engagement.
KFC set out to bring its spicy Zinger product range, including the new extra spicy Zinger Fire Twister, into the spotlight on TikTok. Beyond product visibility, the brand aimed to be perceived as genuinely part of platform culture, connecting with the communities that shape trends and conversation.
The primary campaign objective was to achieve maximum product awareness while creating a deep cultural impact. By tapping into a highly engaged community, KFC sought to move beyond traditional advertising and position the Zinger as a product that naturally belongs within TikTok culture.
To maximize cultural impact, the campaign turned to East Asian pop culture with anime at the heart of its creative idea. To bring the idea to life, KFC worked with an anime artist who turned the TV commercial characters into anime heroes the instant they bit into the Zinger burger.
Across paid and owned assets, KFC leaned into TikTok native storytelling, taking creative liberties that demonstrated a deep understanding of the anime fan base. This included recording the campaign track, which was performed by Noel Pix, a vocalist known for performing songs for anime productions, including Pokémon. This choice delivered instant recognition and credibility within the anime community.
To amplify reach and relevance, TikTok Pulse was deployed alongside In-Feed Ads and Spark Ads, placing KFC's creatives within relevant content environments. This ensured the campaign assets appeared next to content that resonated with anime fans, strengthening cultural connection while maximizing engagement.
The TikTok Creative Exchange Creator program also played a key role in expanding creative diversity and embedding the campaign deeper into the anime community. In addition, a community event hosted by KFC during Japan Day in Düsseldorf was extended onto TikTok, creating a seamless connection between offline fandom and digital culture.
TikTok thrives on niches and communities, and by leveraging popular culture and creator collaboration, KFC's TikTok channel amassed over 14,000 new followers during the campaign period.
The campaign itself generated more than 65 million impressions on TikTok, with over 10 million impressions driven by creator assets from the TikTok Creative Exchange program. By combining creator content with contextual placement through TikTok Pulse, average playback time doubled, delivering a 100 percent increase.
Beyond channel growth, the campaign sparked organic community participation with one community video organically generating over 254,000 views and 14,000 shares, underscoring the campaign's strong cultural relevance and deep engagement with the target audience. In addition, the campaign song was released as a TikTok sound, driving further sharing and widespread adoption across the platform.
Together, these results confirm that activating platform communities and culture through creators and TikTok native formats can drive buzz and meaningful engagement for established product lines.
Our Zinger campaign was created by the community for the community. That's why a TikTok-first approach was exactly the right way for us here. The different ad formats and marketing solutions have enabled us to distribute and activate the campaign in a variety of ways.
